Booktown will be pre-empted for a KVMR membership drive today. This pre-recorded program is available online only.
On this program I talk with mystery-writer couple Marcia Muller and Bill Pronzini, who will be appearing at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City at 7:30 PM on Friday 18 May. She is best known for her long-running Sharon McCone mystery series, he for his similar Nameless Detective books. Both have written many other books as well. Her recent Vanishing Point and his recent Nightcrawlers contain sections set in Nevada County.
I follow this with a woefully inadequate tribute to the late Kurt Vonnegut, who I think may have been the most important American writer of the last four decades. I read an excerpt from his collection Palm Sunday, then played his 1981 interview with Don Swaim and a short section of his reading of his novel Slaughterhouse Five.
At the end of the program I mention Cheryl Angelina Koehler, author of Touring the Sierra Nevada (University of Nevada Press), who will appear at the Bookseller in Grass Valley at 3 PM on Saturday 19 May.
