On Monday 22 September, we interviewed poet Dale Pendell who edited Kiyoi and Kuksu, journals of backcountry writing, in Humboldt and Nevada counties in the 70s and 80s. In recent years he has written Pharmako/Poeia and Pharmako/Dynamis, explorations of psychoactive plants published by Mercury House of San Francisco; Pharmako/Gnosis, the final volume of the series, will appear next spring. Wild Ginger Press of Sebastopol recently published his Living with Barbarians: a Few Plant Poems.
We then talked with Melody Ermachild Chavis, author of Meena, Heroine of Afghanistan, published by St Martin's Press.
Molly read a poem from Ararat, a 1990 book by Louise Gluck, who has just been named Poet Laureate of the United States. All her books are published by Ecco Books.
