I will be giving up Booktown at the beginning of August, almost exactly ten years after it first went on the air on KVMR. Most of the programs in the next few months will concentrate on particular publishers whose books I have enjoyed reading in the past decade or on particular topics which may interest me more than you the listeners (though I hope not). You could call this the American literature program.
On 15 March I planned to talk with rock critic and author Greil Marcus, editor with Werner Sollors of A New Literary History of America, which Harvard University Press published last year. For some reason I couldn't reach Marcus on the phone so I wound up discussing the book on my own.
I then talked with Jerome Loving, Distinguished Professor of English at Texas A & M University, about his biography Mark Twain: The Adventures of Samuel L Clemens, just published by the University of California Press.
